Now in my third season as Design Manager at Watford Football Club, since the start of the 2024/25 season I have been responsible for the club’s entire design output. Leading both internal and external design teams and overseeing the design process from initial concept to final project delivery. The design team sits within the Media department and works with all other departments to assist in both the external, public-facing marketing effort and internal operations. Ensuring high standards are met and a level of consistency is apparent.
During the football season Home match weeks are heavily focused on preparation including (but not limited to) Big Screen Graphics, Social Media Assets alongside a range of both print and digital output. I have a hands-on approach to design work, getting stuck in to design work alongside the designers in my team. Multi-disciplinary collaboration with others in the department is crucial and ensures the highest level of work.
Day-to-day work includes a variety of projects for departments such as Commercial, Hospitality, Retail, Ticketing and Supporter Services. Above are just a few of my favourite projects I enjoyed working on. One of the highlights has been creating the concept for the 25/26 Season Sir Elton John Third Kit launch. Operating on a slim budget, we worked collaboratively as a team. My idea was for the players to re-enact famous Elton John album cover poses, using minimal props as a light-hearted homage to our most famous fan. The campaign was extremely well received and the kit became the fastest selling Watford shirt of all time.
If you would like to see specific examples for any of the departments mentioned, please let me know.
